making resolutions
to change into
something better—
more effective,
productive,
healthier,
yet,
failing at sustaining
the task,
like taking two steps
forward,
then
being pulled back
by the leash.
every intention
of doing better,
lacking the will
to do so.
succeeding
a handful of times,
then
falling off
the cliff
to a rocky demise.
self-loathing
at the inability
to reproduce
results
long term.
every hero
we look up to
able to do so,
we envy.
we lack
strength of spirit,
and willpower,
unable
to overcome
short term
hurdles.
never able to invite
others to the celebration
of victory
over old habits.
the ratio always
skews against us
towards failure—
but that’s not an excuse
to give up.
